Accession (1993-0285) (5100 items; dated 1964-1992) is comprised of manuscripts, drafts, and proofs of poems, as well as notes, correspondence, clippings, and printed materials (including serials and anthologies). The collection documents Applewhite's work as a poet and professor of English at Duke University, including his research about Wordsworth. Manuscripts in the collection include LESSONS IN SOARING: POEMS, A HISTORY OF THE RIVER: POEMS, and RIVER WRITING: AN ENO JOURNAL.
